If you ask a teenager…

In February, The Sunflower Project had the opportunity to participate in the Health Fair at South Pasadena High School. We decided to use it as an opportunity to conduct an interactive, anonymous survey of the students. We set out jars with statements on them, and asked students to drop a marble in any jar that resonated with them.

The statements were:

  • I have been in a safe, loving, healthy romantic relationship

  • I’ve expressed my boundaries to my partner and they were respected

  • I’ve felt unsafe or disrespected in a romantic relationship

  • If a friend confided in me that they had been assaulted I would know how to help them

  • If a friend confided in me that they had been assaulted I would not know how to help them

  • I am or I know someone who is a survivor of relationship violence or sexual assault

Overall, I was so touched by how thoughtful the students were. It was nice to see their reactions to the prompts, and how confident they were in their choices. And, the results are in!

Thank you to the SPHS Health & Wellness Officers for having us!
