Jess Shaker, Artistic Collaborator: Dance

Jess Shaker is currently a senior at Columbia College Chicago. She will graduate with an interdisciplinary degree in dance and psychology. Jess grew up dancing in her hometown, Monroe, WI starting at the age of two. She danced both recreationally and competitively at Studio M Dance Academy. Jess also danced with the Monroe High School Dance Team for three years and was team captain for one of them. In high school, Jess primarily studied ballet, jazz, tap, and commercial hip hop. She got the opportunity to teach at Studio M and choreograph for her high school dance team.

Following high school, Jess studied at North Central College for one year. She was a member of the dance team there and performed at football and basketball games. The team also competed at nationals in Daytona, Florida. After studying at NCC and dancing with their dance team, Jess realized that she wanted to pursue a career in dance. Since transferring to Columbia, she has performed on the dance center stage numerous times in pieces choreographed by Paige Cunningham, Emma Draves, and many student choreographers.

Jess is excited to be a part of the team and spread awareness to high school students. Jess is passionate about building and educating communities. Dance is a way we can spread awareness and bring an end to sexual violence.
